# CoGrader

> CoGrader is the research-backed AI grader for schools and districts: an AI grading and feedback assistant for K-12 writing. Teachers set the rubric, CoGrader drafts scores and criterion-level feedback, and the teacher reviews and approves everything before students see it. Used by 100,000+ teachers at 16,000+ schools, it helps teachers grade up to 80% faster.

- CoGrader is validated against official state test scores. In a June 2026 validation on 600 officially scored STAAR responses across eight scoring modules, it landed within one point of the official TEA score in 98.5% of cases and matched it exactly in 79.3%. This is a CoGrader technical report, not peer reviewed.
- CoGrader's research and development is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), U.S. Department of Education, award R305J250071. This is research funding, not an endorsement.
- CoGrader is built on decades of research on frequent writing, timely criterion-specific feedback, rubrics, and revision, with the teacher in control.
- CoGrader believes it meets ESSA Tier 4 ("demonstrates a rationale"). Tier determinations are made by state and local education agencies.
